
`Gentleman-actor` and Mr.India's Mogambo Amrish Puri passes away. It is remarkable that Puri was the only Bollywood actor to star in a Steven Spielberg film.

Amrish Puri, Bollywood's star and `gentleman-actor` died in a hospital in Mumbai, India, January 12 at the age of 72 of brain haemorrhage.The 'Mogambo' of Indian cinema, thanks to his distinctive actors talent, unforgettable baritone, performed in a variety of roles a villain to a benevolent father.
Puri took to acting in movies way back in 1971. His most memorable masterpieces are the roles in Kapoor's Mr. India (as Mogambo), in Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and "Gandhi", "Nishant", "Hulchul".It is very remarkable that Amrish Puri was the only Bollywood actor to star in Steven Spielberg films.
Indias Prime Minister Singh issued a statement: "I am deeply saddened to learn that the veteran stage and film actor has passed away.
"Puri made a mark on stage and went on to become one of the most recognisable faces in Hindi cinema as well as among international audiences.
"Indian cinema and theatre will without doubt miss his commanding an endearing presence."
Amrish Puri was a true gentleman-actor," stressed Kamal Haasan who starred with Amrish in the comic caper Chachi 420.
Indian film industry and theatre plunged into sorrow as the 72-year-old veteran passed away. He is survived by the wife, a son and a daughter.
