The Repuplican who is now appointed as the member of the state's Gaming Control Board and opposed the slot legalization in 2004 could himself boast a good casino gambling luck - more than $15,000 of gambling winnings.

“The importance of not being earnest” or Mark McNaughton's State Ethics Form

Former State Rep. Mark McNaughton, a supposed long time gambling foe had definitely forgotten about the proverb “Let the one without sin cast the first stone.”  This conservative Republican disclosed his gambling winnings which totaled approximately $15,000 for the past few years.

On one hand, McNaughton had been acknowledged for voting against the 2004 law that legalized slot machines. At the same time though, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, “In 2003, McNaughton reported netting $10,902 from gambling after winning $16,800 and losing $5,898 for the year.”

I guess 2004 was not the best year for him and his gambling side had been going through the streak of losses; nevertheless there is something hypocritical about his actions and fits.

When questioned about his gambling winnings, this notorious Republican responded with the following: "It's not illegal to gamble, is it?"

"McNaughton, other records indicate, also took several trips to an Atlantic City casino with a lobbyist who represents Boyd Gaming Corp., which until September was vying for one of Pennsylvania's coveted slots licenses."

McNaughton’s winnings have been indicated on his income statement but “not on his state ethics forms, as required by law.” “McNaughton said he didn't report his gambling winnings on the ethics disclosure statement for lawmakers because he didn't believe it was required.”

“The state Ethics Commission considers such winnings as income and legislators must note them on their annual disclosure forms if they exceed $1,300.”

Recently, McNaughton has been appointed as a member of the state's Gaming Control Board.

The enforcement of all gambling laws and proper gambling regulation appears to be a faint statement and a good question now for the voters and the gambling insiders.
