Lotto Nigeria is the first national online lottery to appear on the Nigerian gaming market. NSL Lotteries Management Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Sports Lotteries Limited, will operate the service. This lottery was established in April but the launch has only just been announced.
The company will provide the game throughout Nigeria with the help of the worlds leading lottery operators such as Tattersalls of Australia and EssNet of Sweden. The distributive system will maintain over 1,200 retail terminals in eight cities of Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Aba, Benin, Enugu, Ibadan, and Onitsha. The Nigerian lottery business, entering the developed worlds gambling industry, will support its high standards with an Intensive Lottery Best Practice training program for its retailers.
Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Rick Wagner was cited by Allafrica.com as saying that the game will be fair and secure. According to him, the online systems have built in security systems, which are proven to be robust and secure. The gamblers will be able to watch the game every Saturday on NTA stations. The live broadcasting will be supervised by an independent auditor to ensure proper procedures.
Nigerians, over 18 years old, will have the chance to win prizes ranging from a few hundred to millions of Naira. The player, whose six numbers on his or her card match the six numbers drawn, will win the jackpot. According to the rules, 50 percent of the total amount generated from weekly sales will form the pool for all prizes out of which 11 percent will go towards the jackpot called Division One.
The game is also considered to develop local sport and other social activities in the country like education, healthcare etc.
