iGGBA opens branch in Brussels
The interactive Gaming, Gambling and Betting Association (iGGBA) opened an office in Brussels in an effort to safeguard the interests of the remote gambling industry within the European Union, onlinecasinonews.com reported.
iGGBA was created in 2002 to handle legislative, regulatory and commercial issues regarding the Internet gaming industry. Its new branch in the home of the European Parliament will devote itself to ensuring that industry concerns are well represented within the union.
"This office will help extend the good work that the Association has been doing in the UK and provide a truly EU-wide remit for the remote gambling industry. With the EU Services Directive and previous legislation on e-commerce and money laundering, the time is right for the industry to speak regularly with EU officials" stated Andrew Tottenham, chairman of iGGBA.
Representatives of iGGBA have already met officials from the European Commission and plan to hold further talks as the Services Directive progresses through the European Parliament and Council as well as working with EU institutions to help "decision-makers understand the industry and its efforts to provide a socially responsible platform."
