Halle Berry enchants 25 million ‘God’ viewers
Charming Halle Berry who have starred in ABCs TV movie Their Eyes Were Watching God resulted in the best ratings for a made-for-TV movie in five years. Winfrey's creature was the most watched film on any network since CBS's romance One Special Night, starring Julie Andrews and James Garner, more than five years ago. It's also Oprah Winfrey's biggest ABC flick audience since Before Women Had Wings in November '97.
The Winfrey-produced adaptation of the classic 1930s Zora Neale Hurston novel has gathered about 25 million viewers boosting the ABCs ratings and making its win in the tough competition between the major TV companies. The figure is estimated to be the biggest average audience for the week, reported Washington Post. Nielsen Media Research was cited by Reuters as unveiling the figures regarding the ratings: 8.7 rating/21 share in the adults 18-49 demographic from 9-11 p.m.
Halle Berry firmly beat the other top shows provided by other companies outstripping Fox's Friday, Starlet, Bachelorette, Deadwood. GamblingGates.com has already reported The Contender also failed to pick up a substantial audience despite the heavy promotion of the anticipated boxing reality show. The other winner of the week is likely to be the popular TV show American Idol, which currently generates flocks of wagers. According to bookies, viewers are likely to vote in favour of Anwar Robinson (5/2), followed by Mario Vasquez (3/1) and Bo Bice (4/1). The trio leaves behind their close competitors Carrie Underwood listed at 5/1, Vonzell Solomon at 8/1 and Nadia Turner at 8/1, reported Oddschekcer.com.
Halle Berry who performed successful results initially was not considered to play the role as Oprah Winfrey felt intimidated by the Monsters Ball star's Oscar win. According to BreakingNews.iol.ie, the iconic US chat show host was already friends with Berry, but she thought the Halle would change her priorities.
"I don't know what happens to you once you win an Academy Award. I didn't know whether she was going to be, like: 'Now I have an Oscar. I'm sorry. I cannot talk to you, Winfrey said.
