The talented singer Mario Vazquez who was a strong American Idol leader dropped out of the popular singing contest. Mario,27, unveiled his quit on Sunday explaining his decision with personal reasons. Nikko Smith, who failed to break through and get into the final list last Wednesday, is to replace the American Idol favourite with his R&B-style songs.
Regarded as the most successful contender Vazquez managed to gain a lot fans due to his unordinary stage bias.
"He was the best contestant on the show," said to USA Today Idol viewer Kent Bailey of Lexington, Ky. "The talent, along with that smile, would have won him the competition."
The semifinalist Nikko Smith, who will join top 11 players, has received more votes in his favour than Travis Tucker but failed last week. Mario was reported as expressing his disappointment over Nikkos mishap.
"I was really disappointed about Nikko leaving. I thought he was amazing. I thought he had an excellent voice. And he was smooth, dude. He was a smooth operator," Vazquez said.
After the announcement about the quit, Vazquez was reported to travel home to New York.
Smith, the son of baseball's Ozzie Smith, will appear in the performance on Tuesday when the men and women first compete against each other this season. Smith will be challenging Anwar Robinson who is currently a bookies favourite with 13/8 odds. The other contenders are to be Bo Bice listed at 9/4, Carrie Underwood at 5/1, Nadia Turner at 8/1, Vonzell Solomon at 12/1, Anthony Fedorov, Constantine Maroulis, Scott Savol, Lindsey Cardinale, Mikalah Gordon, and Jessica Sierra.
