Man discovers $100,000 winning ticket on desk
It took two weeks before a South Dakota man found $100,000 lottery ticket sitting on his desk. The winner, who lives in Aberdeen, gave back the Powerball lottery ticket Tuesday to the North Dakota Lottery's office in the state Capitol.
The lottery officials said that this ticket matched five of six numbers of July 3 Powerball drawing and was sold at a Simonson's convenience store in Minot.
A North Dakota Lottery spokesperson said that the man worked in Minot and had been on vacation, while the winning ticket was sitting on his desk. The lucky beggar did not know that his ticket was a winner until he checked the numbers last Saturday.
According to Grandforks.com, if the ticket had matched the final "Powerball" number in addition to the first five numbers, it would have been worth about $13 million. The chance of winning $100,000 is one in 2.9 million. Bismarcktribune.com added that the Powerball jackpot for last night's drawing was estimated at $27 million, and the Hot Lotto jackpot was at a record high of $6.9 million.
