Record $325m lottery gets substance abuse treatment
Record $315 million Powerball lottery winner was ordered to undergo substance abuse treatment after his second drunken driving arrest this year.
Jack Whittaker, 57, had to sign an agreement with prosecutors to surrender his driving in order to escape jail. He will receive his license back when he provides written proof he's completed the 28-day residential program.
According to Lotterypost.com, Whittaker was charged with drunken driving, violating his $150 bond for a similar arrest in January. He was released after posting a $1,700 cash bond, and will remain free on his original bond in the earlier arrest.
After his lottery win on Christmas Day 2002 Whittaker received a $113 million lumpsum and spent $14 million to set up a nonprofit foundation to help residents find jobs, buy food or receive an education. Despite his charity donations Whittaker got involved in different lawsuits, two of them were initiated by female employees of a racetrack who accuse Whittaker of assault. Also he faces charges with allegedly assaulting and threatening a bar manager in January.
