The Virginia Lottery officials announced that their players won just under $750 million in prizes during the last year.
According to Wavy.com, five winners became millionaires in 2004. Three jackpots were donated by Lotto South, one victory was provided by Mega Millions and another one was contributed by a scratch ticket. The lottery officials reported that the winners came from northern Virginia, Richmond, North Carolina and two from the Shenandoah Valley.
The biggest prize was a Mega Millions jackpot of $239 million, the largest prize in the history of the Virginia Lottery. It was won in February by J-R Triplett of Winchester.
All profits from the Virginia Lottery go to public school education. The Lottery turned over more than $408 million in fiscal year 2004.
