Spiderman actor Tobey Maguire, 28, has recently showed his professional skills playing poker at the Mirage Poker Showdown, which took place in Las Vegas. Star player competed with 281participants and finished 24th taking home a $10,000 prize. Azcentral.com reported on the larger sum of $16,201 and on the 15th place for Tobey.
According to Pokerpages.com, The Mirage Poker Showdown was due to the newest addition to the 15-tournament World Poker Tour series. The poker competition with the $10,200 buy-in boasted total money prize more than $2.7 million. The winner was set to receive $1,024,574 amount advancing him to the WPT Championship at the end of the season in April 2005 at Bellagio.
The list of poker professional players included Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke, Phil Ivey, Scotty Nguyen, Phil Laak and T.J. Cloutier. Other star persons were actors James Woods and Tobey Maguire, who won his seat in a super-satellite prior to the tournament.
The spectators were able to watch the event on TV covering the final table for the World Poker Tour series on Travel Channel. According to statistics, World Poker Tour draws a weekly television audience of approximately five million viewers.
