On the first day of the tournament, Justin Rose received a wakeup call in his hotel room that roused him out of a sound slumber. As a first reserve, Rose was only permitted to play in the PGA event if someone else pulled out. And, believe or not, he was notified just minutes before he was scheduled to tee off. "I had never been in that situation before so I didn't really know how it worked," said Rose. "I didn't expect to get a call early in the morning." Fortunately for Rose the hotel was right next to the golf course. "I got the call and they said I had seven minutes to get to the tee," Rose told. “I slammed the phone down and started to get dressed. I was pulling my pants up as I ran down the corridor and got into the lift. I realized I didn't have my clubs so I called my caddie. I rented clubs, had on sneakers and had to buy balls for the first time in a long time.”"I bogeyed the first three holes but then I managed to wake up." "This is my seventh season as a pro, so I don't feel young anymore”,aid Rose. "I know I'm every bit as good as those guys."

Rose is just one shot behind the leader Shigeki Maruyama halfway through the Sony Open, as Adam Scott, 10th place,  gained his revenge from Michelle Wie.
