Pensioners grab £9m lotto jackpot after 10 years of cooperation
A group of bowls club pensioners, who formed a syndicate over 10 years ago, finally won nearly £9m (US$17,3) on the National Lottery in the UK.
The leader of the 18-strong syndicate, Sydney Hartley, 76, said he heard about the win from a fellow bowls club member.
"We started the syndicate over 10 years ago when the National Lottery first began, and we had joked ever since that every Saturday would be our lucky week. Now it has actually happened I'm just over the moon," said Hartley.
All members of the syndicate are aged between 60 and 85. The pensioners, who selected lucky numbers 10, 16, 19, 30, 35 and 45, decided to celebrate their lottery jackpot with champagne, tea and rich tea biscuits. They say they will use the won money to treat their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, or splash out on new homes and holidays.
