Paddy Power sets up online poker
Online betting company Paddy Power, based in the United Kingdom, announced a plan to launch a new gambling service online poker. The company's decision fits in with its overall strategy of tapping into other internet gambling activities.
According to the Irish newspaper Sunday Business Post, quoting Casinocitytimes.com, such an expansion has proved to be increasingly profitable for Paddy Power.
An online poker facility, which would match up players with other users online in a real live game, is expected to be available by the end of the year or early in 2005. The new poker option is aimed at generating revenues in Paddy Power's online division, which is already exceeding targets.
Paddy Power, Ireland's biggest bookmaker, has recently announced a 36% increase in turnover for 2003 with rapid growth across all its product lines. A particularly distinctive feature of betting with Paddy Power is special wagering opportunities or novelties, where punters may bet on new baby Beckhams names or whether it will be a white Christmas or not this year, etc.
