Michigan Lottery promises updates on jackpot winners
Michigan Lottery Commission has launched an initiative eliminating the opportunity of selling tickets after their jackpots have been claimed. Lottery Commissioner Gary Peters said that retailers will receive weekly updates regarding the instant games winnings.
The problem has been resolved after The Detroit News unveiled the issue in their report. Freep.com disclosed some facts concerning this problem: as of Wednesday, six of the 40 instant games still being supplied to stores no longer offer grand prizes.
Lottery retailers, which currently receive monthly updates, will receive necessary equipment enabling weekly updates within the next month. Peters said that vendors will receive countertop displays showing which scratch-off games' grand prizes have been won.
"That's fantastic. I can't believe they moved so fast," Janet Taylor of Troy, a frequent scratch-off player, told The News. "It gives everyone a chance to see what games still have the top prizes. You want to know what your chances are of winning the big one."
Grand prizes account for only about 15 percent of each game's potential winnings, Peters said earlier. He said he doesn't withdraw games whose jackpots have been won because smaller prizes worth millions of dollars remain.
