Ladbrokes upgrades its technology to handle forthcoming competitions
Ladbrokes, UK and Ireland's largest off-track bookmaker, announced implementation of a complete reconstruction of its online system. The company says it is concerned about the forthcoming Euro 2004 soccer championships and the Summer Olympics in Greece which are expected to bring the flurry of online wagering activity in the next few months. Ladbrokes foresees an unprecedented amount to be generated from these sports events and wants to enhance its system in order to handle their mission.
According to Onlinecasinonews.com, the company hired Sun Microsystems to install new server systems available to serve much larger flow of traffic and wagering transactions. In addition, 24 servers will have to support the website's application layer and 10 servers will provide the web layer. The operator is also to launch a more sophisticated disaster recovery facility to prevent possible technical problems.
The Grand National saw a 50% increase in the number of customers placing bets online, and with a busy sporting summer ahead, we needed the systems in place to manage a growing membership of our online service, said Steve Maxwell, director of e-gaming at Ladbrokes.com.
Ladbrokes.com is a part of Ladbrokes Limited, the betting and gaming division of the world's leading international hotel brand Hilton Group. The company owns around 2000 high street shops and over 250 off-course betting outlets in Belgium.
