The Calcutta High Court in India returnes online lottery terminals seized by the West Bengal government to the retailers
India court denounces government’s move against e-lottery terminals
The Calcutta High Court in India, which investigated the decision of the West Bengal government to seize online lotteries terminals from some retailers, rules in favour of gambling operators. The Courts appointed the police authorities to return the terminals to their eligible owners.
In an interim order Justice Pinaki Ghose also stated that the police shouldnt frown on the retailers who conduct any single digit lottery, use the logo of the state on the tickets and dont hold more than one lottery a week.
According to Newkerala.com, the state government launched a drive against the online lotteries for allegedly violating the conditions provided in the Lotteries Act, 1998. Police seized hundreds of terminals during raids in different parts of the state last month.
The court directed that on receiving the undertaking from the retailers for fulfilment of the above conditions, the police authorities will return the articles seized from them.
