England have now won seven of their last eight Test matches and are unbeaten in 2004, rising to number two in the world rankings behind Australia. With a good weather forecast this week they look a good bet at 5/6 to carry on the good work in the second Test at Edgbaston. The West Indies appear to be a team in decline - 29 losses in their last 39 Test - but they can at least take some positives from their top orders batting performance at Lords, with Gayle scoring two half centuries, and Chanderpaul nearly managing two hundreds.
The pitch at Edgbaston, however, often lends itself to the bowlers, and that is where England can stamp their authority on the game. Steve Harmison, who bowled well enough at Lords without being rewarded, remains one of the most dangerous bowlers on either side, while Ashley Giles" ball to dismiss Brian Lara on Monday was one of the best of the summer so far! It is not difficult to imagine England bowling the Windies out twice, and they could easily collapse if the wickets start to fall. Harmison to be "Man of the Match" makes plenty of appeal at 8/1, as does the 7/2 Michael Vaughan to be "Top England 1st Innings Batsman". Back to form at Lords with two hundreds, it was here twelve months ago that Vaughan knocked up 156 against South Africa.
bet365 2nd Test prices England 5/6, West Indies 11/2, The Draw 29/20.
