Middleton starts working for Camelot
National Lottery operator Camelot will have new chairman Sir Peter Middleton, the outgoing chairman of Barclays Bank. According to BBC, Michael Grade, the previous chairman, left Camelot when he became BBC chairman in May.
Sir Peter left his position of Barclays chairman on 31 August, but is still completing a number of engagements for the bank until the end of this year. He has been working for bank since 1991 beginning as Permanent Secretary to the Treasury.
Sir Peter commented new appointment: "I am delighted to be joining Camelot in the year of the National Lottery's 10th birthday. My main task will be to work with the government to ensure a sensible and fair bidding process for the third lottery licence and help lead any future Camelot bid for it".
As it announced its new chairman, Camelot revealed total sales of GBP1,167.7m between April and June this year, up GBP63.1m or 5.7% on the same period last year.
Sir Peter is to take up his new position after the next scheduled Camelot board meeting on 23 September.
