Chelsea accuse FA of lenient Mutu drugs ban
Chelsea, London, Nov. 5 -- Sacked Chelsea striker Adrian Mutus amazing FA escape after testing positive for cocaine, has angered Chelsea, as the FA have suspended Mutu from football for seven months with £20,000 fine.
Chelsea accused the Football Association of being "weak on the issue of drugs" and branded the punishment of Mutu, the flamboyant Romanian forward with a playboy reputation, as obscene and pathetic.
While the finding of the Football Association disciplinary commission was deemed fair and reasonable in most quarters, it was met with derision at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea, who dismissed Mutu and terminated his contract last week (Chelsea fire Mutu for doping), were angered by the relatively short length of Mutus ban.
We are extremely disappointed with the Mutu verdict, Peter Kenyon, Chelseas chief executive, said. We believe it is far too lenient and sends out the wrong message about drugs in football. It is also indicative of a lack of direction within the FA at this time.
