$100,000 for Boston Marathon winners, prize fund rises to $575,000
John Hancock, the general sponsor of the Boston Marathon, the world's oldest modern marathon, has increased the prize money. Starting from April 18, 2005, the date for which the 109th running of the Boston Marathon.is scheduled, the winners of the men's and women's races will each receive $100,000, up from $80,000 in previous years. The winners of the race on wheelchairs division will each get $15,000, up from $10,000. Boston Marathon winners will also be awarded significant bonuses if they establish new US or world records. John Hancock says the total prize fund will be $575,000.
