London, Dec. 8 Church leaders have reacted angrily to a Madame Tussauds celebrity nativity scene, with wax replicates of star couple Victoria and David Beckham depicting Mary and Joseph, calling it last night a nativity stunt too far. A spokesman for one senior Church of England bishop condemned it as an outrage, as Reuters reported: Catholics and Presbyterians called the exhibit at Madame Tussauds waxwork museum in London a new low in the cult of celebrity worship.
Some church leaders, however, gave a guarded welcome to the waxwork attraction, featuring British Prime Minister Tony Blair, President George Bush and the Duke of Edinburgh as the Three Wise Men and pop star Kylie Minogue as an angel.
The celebrity nativity scene, also starring actors Hugh Grant and Samuel L. Jackson, and talkshow host Graham Norton as shepherds, comes after 300 visitors to the London attraction in October were asked which celebrities they would like to see in which roles.
The baby Jesus is just a plastic doll of the type used in any school nativity play.
