Online gambling firm Bwin are to buy Italy’s Gioco Digitale which is an online poker gaming operator. This deal is said to be worth up to €115 million in cash and stocks. Gioco, commands approximately 20% of the Italian online poker market and they are estimated to have earned over €20 million in the first half of 2009.
Bwin is an Austrian based interactive entertainment company and once they have completed this deal they will be the largest online poker company in Italy. Bwin have stated that the current chief of Gioco Digitale would continue to manage along with backup support from the Bwin CEO’s.
There has been a ruling in the European Court of Justice recently that might have an impact on Bwin and their monopoly over the European gambling industry. This ruling has stated that the national bans on internet gambling like Portugal’s did not actually conflict with the principle of free provision of services. The European Court of Justice said that these bans were sometimes necessary to combat fraud and other crime and that they could be justified as being in general interest.
It seems now, that European lotteries may try to actually use the European Court of Justice’s ruling to establish their own monopolies on online gambling. All they have to do is take a closer look at the situation and see what the legal possibilities area and it was also reported that online gambling providers would no longer just need a license from Gibraltar or Malta and that in the future they would need to have a license from the country in which they were providing the online gambling service.

It is no secret the Congressman Frank has put forth a bill to try and legalise and regulate online gambling in the United States. In order to help this along th Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative has launched its own online advertising campaign which is going to appear on numerous websites and in leading publications.
This new bill was introduced in May of this year and if pass it will establish a federal regulatory and enforecment framework so that internet gambling operators could obtain lecenses that will allow them to provide online gambling services to people in the United States.
The new advertising campaign is in favour of the bill and if pass it will allow the US government to collect between $48.6 billion and $62.7 billion in new revenues in the first decade. It will also mean that those Americans who continue to use online gambling websites at present will not be breaking the law anymore.
It sounds to me like a great way to help bring in some much needed cash to the American government especially in today’s economic crisis. It’s not as if people in the US aren’t already using online gambling websites, they are, and if it become legal if means they won’t have to hide anymore.
Online gambling is extremely popular worldwide and I really don’t think that this is something that is going to chance. If you are fan of Roulette and you live in the UK then today’s post is for you. According to reports you will soon be able to wager live on the outcome of real time games using your television. This comes after the broadcaster Five signed a five year deal with the interactive gaming firm NetPlay TV.
This deal is rumoured to have been in the works for some time and the new SuperCasino.com programme is set to air on the 17th September. This comes about because recently the British communications watchdog OfCom recently relaxed their guidelines. Under their new rules, gambling programmes are now being classified as teleshopping and this has allowed broadcasters such as Five to show this type of content between the hours of midnight and 6am each day.
After doing some checked I discovered that NetPlay TV has revealed that this new programme would be broadcast three nights a week and you can catch it between midnight and 4am. It will then be extended to six nights a week if things go well.
There was a piece by City AM who stated that this new deal is an attempt by the broadcaster Five to increase its revenues. They also went on to say that Five has experienced a drop in television advertising due to the downturn in the economy and that they are hoping that the SuperCasino.com programme will help to combat this. They have stated that the programme will appear nightly by 2010.
