Tenfold Grammy success for Kannye West

Chicago producer-turned rapper Kanye West, Atlanta R&B star Usher, Grammy favorite Alicia Keys, persistent Stevie Wonder and other commercially successful hitmakers are honored as top Grammy contenders and at the Billboard Awards in Las Vegas. The background was reported in Charles, West, Usher, Keys — get 33 Grammy nominations. Another update on Grammy has been recently announced by the Recording Academy the 47th annual Grammy Awards.

Kanye West, who survived a serious car crash to led the list of the biggest hits of the year with his debut album, made a stunning surprise winning the top position in 10 nominations. Kanye West was followed very closely by Usher and  Alicia Keys.

"Ten nominations, that's amazing,'' said West, a nominations presenter at the Music Box Theatre in Hollywood. "That's like a perfect score. I'm at a loss for words.''

"I'm on cloud eight right now. You know, I didn't really expect this. In life," said Alpharetta, Ga. resident Usher, who was in Los Angeles wrapping up a short film set to be aired on New Year's Eve.

Ray Charles came up just behind Usher and Keys, whose final album, Genius Loves Company was cited in seven categories. East Bay punk rock heroes Green Day earned six for the band's rock opera, American Idiot. Prince, Norah Jones, Loretta Lynn and recording engineer Al Schmitt each have five bids.

The 47th annual Grammy Awards will be handed out in 107 categories on Feb. 13 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on CBS-TV.

"This year's nominees truly reflect a trend of musicmakers participating in multiple aspects of the creative process, while also often collaborating with a diverse slate of other artists in various genres," said Neil Portnow, president of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, which presents the awards show.

At the moment, many oddsmakers develop their betting opportunities. Online bookie BetWWTS.com now offers +250 odds for the biggest-selling album of 2004 Usher's Confessions as the candidate to win Album of the Year title. This nomination’s odds also include Charles’ album (+400), Keys' The Diary of Alicia Keys (+140), West's College Dropout (+600) and Green Day's pop-punk creature American Idiot (+500). Green Day is the category's only surprise inclusion, taking a spot many thought would go to beloved comebacks by Loretta Lynn, Brian Wilson or Prince.

So far, the bookmaker has already released its odds for such nominations like Record of the Year, Song of ohe Year and the Best New Artist Odds.
